Tumwater wildlife control tip of the month:
Where do opossums live? Do more opossums live in urban areas, or wild areas?
Their Range
The Tumwater animal control opossum can be found nearly across all the states in the US. Except for the most arid regions,
they can thrive almost anywhere even up to the southern parts of Canada. And though human encroachment
has very much stolen their natural habitats, this doesn’t seem to bother the opossum and in fact, is slowly
but surely, expanding its range even more.
Habitat
Opossums in the Tumwater animal control wild will often live near wooded areas and in clear view of a water source such as lake or
river. However, due to us humans taking much of their natural habitats away from them, they are now learning
to adapt to urban areas and are increasingly being spotted in such areas as well.
Dens
Opossums do not make dens themselves and will often take other animal’s dens or use man-made structures like
sheds or porches to use as shelter. There are also often found living in:
-Hollow stumps
-Logs
-Fallen trees
-Woodpiles
They choose their dens carefully and make sure that they are at least:
-Dry
-Sheltered
-Safe
Often, they will add dried leaves, grass and other well-insulating materials to keep their dens cozy
especially during the Tumwater pest control cold winter months as their fur does not provide them with much needed insulation.
Conclusion
Opossums fall into a category that now many Tumwater pest control wild animals fall under - a category where they are no longer just
wild animals but can also Tumwater wildlife removal skirt the urban areas as well. They are now so easily adapted to both areas that they
are just as easily spotted in urban area. This is probably due to the fact that we, humans began encroaching on what
was their natural habitat and building around it - making it urban. But to them, that was still their wild area - they just learned how to adapt.
It is also possible that we have created for them a whole knew food source and that it is why opossums are gradually
becoming more frequently found in urban areas. They can be found rummaging through our trash and making dens out of our woodpiles and sheds.
The divide between urban and wild areas has been blurred and continues to be blurred as creatures like the opossum can be
seen in both areas just as much as the other. Hopefully, we can learn to co-exist with such Tumwater exterminator creatures respectfully.
